UAE seek to make history in Padel
Eight-member squad commences campaign against Japan to qualify for World Padel Championships Hosts UAE will make their debut on the international platform when an eight-member squad opens their campaign against Japan in the Asia-Africa qualifying round of the World Padel Championships at the Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex, on Thursday.
Held under the supervision of the International Padel Federation (FPI), the three-day competition is being organised by the UAE Padel Association (UAE PA) at the Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex from November 11-13.
Sponsored by APEX Padel Sports, the UAE squad consists of Fares Al Janahi, Khalid Al Shamsi, Saeed Al Marri, Abdullah Ahli, Mohammad Al Janahi, Amer Ahli, Abdullah Abdullah and Ahmed Khalid.
The details of the three-day competition were announced at the Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex on Wednesday by Saeed Al Marri, General Secretary of the UAE PA.
Al Marri thanked Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai for his continued patronage, and Shaikh Saeed Bin Maktoum Bin Juma Al Maktoum, President of the UAE Padel Association for his guidance.
“Nad Al Sheba is where it all began for padel in the UAE, and here we are trying to qualify for an international competition that can bring further glory to the UAE especially as we mark the year of our foundation as a new nation,” Al Marri said.
“Competitions like these are a sure step for a young country like ours to aspire for bigger things. Padel has made a strong start here and today we feel we are at the right place to think we can play in a World Championships,” he added.
The UAE will open the competition in Group A as they take on Japan at 10.30 am and then face Egypt at 6 pm, on November 11. Senegal, Qatar and Iran are the other three teams in the competition after being put in Group B.
After the round-robin matches, the Group A winner will face the Group B runner-up, while the Group B winner will take on the Group A to decide which two teams advance to the final scheduled on November 13.
“We take this occasion to thank Apex Padel Sports and Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex, who are the official sponsors of our national padel team. We invite spectators to come and cheer the national team as we seek to write a historic chapter in sport,” Al Marri said.
“I also warmly welcome our distinguished guests from all participating countries, and we thank the Dubai Media Corporation and the Dubai Ambulance Services for their assistance during this competition,” he added.
Nearly 30 countries from across the globe have already qualified for the XV World Padel Championships that are scheduled to be held in neighbouring Doha, Qatar from November 15-20.

وتحدث سعيد المري أمين عام اتحاد الإمارات للبادل تنس في المؤتمر عن أهمية إعلان أول منتخب وطني يتم تشكيله للعبة البادل، ويضم في صفوفه في التصفيات 8 لاعبين، وهم: فارس الجناحي، خالد الشامسي، سعيد المري، عبدالله أهلي، محمد الجناحي، عامر أهلي، عبدالله عبدالله وأحمد خالد.
وألقى سعيد المري، أمين عام اتحاد الإمارات للبادل تنس، كلمة قال فيها: نجتمع في هذا المكان الخاص للغاية لرياضة البادل تنس، فبفضل رعاية ودعم سمو الشيخ حمدان بن محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم، ولي عهد دبي، وبتوجيهات الشيخ سعيد بن مكتوم بن جمعة آل مكتوم، رئيس اتحاد البادل تنس، انطلقت من مجمع ند الشبا الرياضي، هذه الرياضة بخطوات واعدة وطموحات كبيرة نحصدها اليوم ونحن نلتقي للإعلان عن مشاركة أول منتخب وطني للعبة في التصفيات المؤهلة إلى كأس العالم.
6 منتخبات
وأضاف: تنطلق هذه التصفيات على أرض الإمارات، بمشاركة 6 منتخبات، وهي: السنغال، إيران، قطر، اليابان، مصر ومنتخبنا الوطني الذي يمثله 8 لاعبين، والكل يستهدف حصد بطاقة التأهل من ناحية، ومن جانب آخر فإننا نتطلع أن تشكل هذه المنافسات خطوة نحو مستقبل أكثر إشراقاً لرياضة البادل في المنطقة والقارة ككل.

أسفرت قرعة البطولة، عن وقوع منتخبنا في المجموعة الأولى إلى جانب اليابان ومصر، فيما تضم المجموعة الثانية السنغال وإيران وقطر.
وتقام اليوم، مواجهتا منتخبنا مع اليابان في الساعة 10:30 صباحاً، ومع مصر في الساعة 6 مساءً، فيما تلتقي قطر والسنغال في الساعة 10:30 صباحاً، وقطر وإيران في الساعة 6 مساءً.
